Philadelphia Antiques Show 2022
98 A LOOK BACK Arthur Liverant of Nathan Liverant and Son, Colchester, CT Nathan Liverant and Son has been an exhibitor since 1992 “Ours has been a family business for 101 years. I joined my father after college and one of my first requests was to exhibit in Philadelphia. Dad, better known as Zeke, thought the idea was a waste of time but said, ‘OK, but you are on your own!’ When he came to check on me at the preview in 1992, he was smitten, and then spent many years holding court in a chair in front of our booth. Zeke was a fixture of the show!” Steven Chait of Ralph M. Chait Galleries, New York, New York Ralph Chait Galleries has been an exhibitor since 2002 “Twenty years ago, Chinese decorative arts dealers, like ourselves, were more of a niche market at the Show, which was more dominated by American art, furniture, and folk art. Since then, the scope of the show has grown. The greater interest in Chinese decorative arts has led to more interested collectors in our field. I fondly remember from our earlier days at the Show. Ned Johnson, from Boston, who was a devoted collector and came every year. It was a pleasure to see his enthusiasm for collecting across the Show in many fields.” Chinese Famille Verts Porcelain Dragon and Phoenix Plate Kangxi Period, 1662-1722 Arthur and Zeke (seated) Liverant
