Peter Sculthorpe’s artistic journey is a testament to his innate talent and unwavering dedication to the craft. Born in Ontario, Canada in 1948, his artistic prowess became evident early on, blossoming during his high school years. In recognition of his exceptional abilities, he was honored with a scholarship in his senior year. Formal education further refined Sculthorpe’s skills as he studied at the prestigious Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts under Arthur Decosta, with whom he enjoyed a lifelong friendship, and the Hussian School of Art, under the tutelage of William Palmer Lear. His commitment to artistic excellence was again recognized with the Daisy Jamison Art Scholarship. Sculthorpe’s impact extends beyond personal and academic achievements. His work graces both private and corporate collections, including esteemed names such as General Electric, AT&T, DuPont, and Nabisco. His paintings have found a permanent home in renowned institutions, with pieces featured in the collections of the Delaware Art Museum in Wilmington, Delaware; the William Penn Art Museum in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and the Brandywine River Art Museum in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. Through his art, Sculthorpe invites us into a world he describes as “classical painting,” where stone farmhouses and glowing moons come to life on canvas, creating a legacy that resonates in the hearts of art enthusiasts and collectors alike.
