A West Point-educated engineer, Hebert served in all major battles of the Mexican-American War. He later was a Brigadier General in the Confederate Army, placed in command of Louisiana. Post-war he retired to Home Place Plantation near Bayou Goula, and was appointed to several engineering boards by President Ulysses S. Grant. 205.
