Incollect Magazine - Issue1 Preview
Issue 1 4 www.incollect.com PUBLISHER’S LETTER T oday, I am proud to announce a new, exciting evolution in Antiques & Fine Art magazine’s 22-year history — Incollect Magazine . As you will see inside, our new publication now encompasses the full range of design, antiques and art, better reflecting the diverse collections people live with today and aligning with the content on our successful marketplace Incollect.com. We launched Antiques & Fine Art magazine 22 years ago with a mission of discovering and sharing the world of antiques and fine art. Nine months after our launch, I hired Johanna McBrian as Editor-In- Chief. We grew the publication and explored in-depth topics from categories including folk art, American furniture and decorative arts, fine art, jewelry and interiors from the 17th through the 20th century. We started Incollect.com seven years ago based on the simple idea that the internet was a powerful tool able to reach a wider audience to present the best in antiques, furniture, art, jewelry and design. Dealers worldwide embraced the new opportunity and today Incollect.com is a vibrant, global online marketplace with hundreds of dealers representing more than 500 years of period design into the 21st century. Interiors have become far more eclectic than when we launched Antiques & Fine Art magazine in 2000, and mixing pieces from a range of time periods and styles is now the norm. A living room with an 18th-century console, folk art ceramics, a contemporary abstract painting and mid-century modern seating has become the epitome of contemporary style — and is certainly how I live. Design builds on elements from previous periods — an 18th-century Windsor chair is clearly the inspiration for a 1960s “Curva” chair by Brazilian designer Joaquim Tenreiro. Incollect Magazine reflects this. Combining the strength of an online marketing platform with a quality print and digital magazine benefits both readers and advertisers. The digital version of Incollect Magazine will be fully available to our online readership. Integration between print and online means we will cover more subjects, and reach many more people. In 2018, Johanna accepted a position as Director of the Dedham Museum but was still able to helm our editorial initiatives. With the exciting transition to Incollect Magazine, we were fortunate to have found a talented new Editor-In-Chief, Benjamin Genocchio. I would like to thank Johanna for her incredible drive and contributions to the magazine through the last 22 years. She will continue with Incollect Magazine as a consulting editor and has passed the reins to Ben. Ben’s accomplishments are impressive: New York Times art critic, launched Artnet news, and was director of The Armory Show. In Ben’s debut issue, we have feature articles on Henri Matisse’s prints, Max Ingrand, The American Folk Art Museum’s 60th Anniversary and 18th-century American furniture. We are thrilled to embark with you, our valued readers, on our new publication and are immensely grateful for your continued support. And so without further ado, we present the premier issue of Incollect Magazine.
