Credited with founding the movement, Littleton’s work, Double Sliced Descending Form , emphasizes the elastic nature of the ancient medium. Kuhn’s work is in direct juxtaposition—working from the inside out with cold glass fused into a solid prism to refract color and light. Predating the studio glass by almost two hundred years, is a sculptural silver gilt fruit basket by Digby Scott and Benjamin Smith II. The eclectic marriage of the Bacchic grapevines with the Egyptian sphinx were the height of fashion in Regency England, as exemplified in “The Grand Service” commissioned in 1806 by the Prince of Wales and including pieces by Scott, Smith II, and Paul Storr.
