AFA Winter 2017

Winter 16 www.afamag.com | w ww.incollect.com Highlights The Winter Antiques Show is one of the nation’s leading art, antiques, and design fairs and a high- light on the annual show calendar. Featuring 70 of the world’s leading experts in the fine and decora- tive arts, the show highlights a sophisticated mix of works, dating from ancient through to the present day; each object is vetted for authenticity, date, and condition. Events include the glamorous opening night party of cocktails and hors d’oeuvres; a Young Collectors Night; specialty tours of the show; and an exhibition lecture series. This year’s loan exhibit features the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, Virginia. Visitors will see exceptional objects selected to highlight the past century of the institution’s collecting and significant gifts, ranging from paintings by John Singer Sargent, Willem de Kooning, and Vincent van Gogh, to decorative arts by Tiffany and Paul Storr. The Design Chairs for this year’s show are Thomas Jayne, Wendy Goodman, and Gil Schafer. Through January, the Design Co-Chairs are lending their voices to advocate for the use of historic art and objects in contemporary interiors and to highlight the important work of East Side House Settlement, the Show’s beneficiary. Says Arie L. Kopelman, Winter Antiques Show Chairman Emeritus, “Every year we enlist a group of design experts to co-chair this important event and this year’s support comes from a group of true masters in the field of architecture and design.” This year also marks the first year of Mr. Kopelman’s emeritus status. In recognition of his distinguished role as show chairman, during which time he raised millions in critical funds for East Side House Settlement, Mr. Kopelman will be presented with a leadership award honoring him for his service to the show and the charity.
