Washington Winter Show 2017

Liz and Susan, congratulations on a fabulous Show! Dory Clark, Denise Prince and Puffin Travers 2017 co-chair letter the washington Winter Show F or sixty-two years, volunteers have given their time and commitment to bringing the Washington Winter Antiques Show to life. We have been honored to follow in the footsteps of so many talented Washingtonians who have all had the same goal in mind—to create the finest Show possible in support of underserved and at-risk children and families through the charitable organizations the Show supports. This year, we are proud to present The Art of Style for The Bishop T. Walker School for Boys, THEARC and The Founders Board of St. John’s Community Services. The Art of Style celebrates the timeless elegance and sophistication of good design. True artistry is behind the best of fashion, landscapes, and interiors, as well as antiques and art. The Art of Style recognizes the mastery of creativity and skill by great designers, craftsmen, and artists, both past and present. The loan exhibit this year, Coco Chanel: A New Portrait by Marion Pike, Paris 1967–1971, captures the theme of our show flawlessly by blending a collection of Chanel portraits with vintage couture. We are beyond grateful to Lauren Hillyard for bringing this exhibition to our attention and for sharing her time and endless talent. We are also deeply appreciative of the exhibit curator Amy de la Haye and of Jeffie Pike Durham for sharing their exhibition and stories with all of us. We are humbled by the long list of supporters to this year’s Show and are especially indebted to PNC Bank for once again serving as our Presenting Sponsor. All of our sponsors, benefactors, and patrons are equally devoted to ensuring that the missions of our charities are met through the success of the 2017 Show. We have truly enjoyed working with the Winter Show Board of Directors, whose dedication is an inspiration to us both. We could not have accomplished this year’s Show without their guidance and tireless efforts. We give special thanks to Mason Bavin for her enthusiasm and countless hours of support. Our thanks go also to the Katzen Arts Center at American University for serving as the perfect host of our wonderful forty-four exhibitors. We are delighted to welcome our exhibitors returning again this year and we thank them for their continued support. Again, it truly has been a privilege to be a part of this wonderful organization this year. We thank our Committee for embracing our ideas and for their hard work. We hope you all enjoy The Art of Style! We also wish to extend our sincere appreciation to: • Lela Rose, fashion designer, for encouraging us to “make every day an occasion” and for serving as our Friday luncheon speaker. • Chip Callaway, landscape architect, for bringing his Southern charm and legendary storytelling to our Saturday lecture. • Darryl Carter, Barry Dixon, Maria Crosby Pollard, and Tori Mellott for sharing their incredible knowledge of interior design, artistry, and style in our newest event, the Design Panel. • Inslee Haynes Fariss, fashion illustrator and friend, who listened to our ideas and lovingly painted our catalogue cover art. • Eleanor Roper, Denise Delaurentis, Carol Pinto, Ryland Witt, and Nina McLemore for sharing their talent in our Dealer Talks and Guided Walks. • The Washington Winter Show Advisors, especially William J. Curtin, for once again helping us to recruit our Honorary Diplomatic Chair. • Betsy Holleman Burke and Palmer and Barry Graham for hosting our spring and fall gatherings. • Paul Severino, for the beautiful luncheon vintage centerpieces. • Jean Taylor Federico, Catalogue Chair, and assistant Carla Brenner for their sensitive editing and layout of the catalogue. • Jonathan G.
