George Miller and American Lithography Through September 15, 2019 Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State, University Park, Pennsylvania For information, visit www.palmermuseum.psu.edu The exhibition is selected entirely from the museum’s expansive permanent collection and features thirty-eight prints by an impressive roster of art- ists who worked with master printer George Miller (1894– 1965) to create some of their most memorable and recogniz- able works in the early twenti- eth century. For forty years, starting in 1917, Miller assisted many of the country’s leading American Scene artists in exploring lithogra- phy’s expressive possibilities, including Thomas Hart Benton, Howard Cook, John Steuart Curry, Stuart Davis, Mabel Dwight, Don Freeman, Wanda Gág, Doris Lee, and Louis Lozowick, to name just a few; a veritable who’s who of printmakers. Ellison Hoover (1888-1955), George C. Miller, Lithographer, 1949. Lithograph, 11⅛ x 8¾ inches. Palmer Museum of Art (2018.11). Peabody Essex Museum Expansion Opens September 28, 2019 Salem, Massachusetts For information, visit www.pem.org This fall, the PEM will open a new, 40,000-square-foot wing designed by Ennead Architects. The expan- sion—a component of the museum’s landmark $650M Connect Cam- paign—features 15,000-square-feet of new gallery space, a light-filled atrium, an entry for school and group tours, linkages to existing galleries, and a 5,000-square-foot garden designed by Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects. PEM is the old- est, as well as one of the fastest-growing museums in the country. When the new wing opens, Salem will become one of the nation’s largest art museum destinations outside of a major urban center. PEM expansion. Architectural rendering by Ennead Architects.
